PERFORMING ARTS: PERU BIENAL PRESENTS PERFORMANCES STARTING IN APRIL

The Peru Biennial presents its International Performing Arts Program, an initiative featuring a total of 33 selected projects.

As part of the program, the contemporary dance work Unpacked: A Dance Adventure, by American dancer and educator Taylor Gordon, will be presented on Saturday, April 4, at 7:30 p.m. at Sala Bienal “G” (Av. San Martín 209, Barranco).

About the performance

The production features ten artists on stage and presents a semi-autobiographical dance work rooted in contemporary jazz. It follows the parallel journeys of a military soldier and a touring artist, siblings who explore the world until tragedy changes the course of their lives. Admission is free upon prior registration and subsequent confirmation.

In Jesús María and Miraflores

Continuing the Peru Biennial International Performing Arts Program, on Wednesday, April 8, the Teatro Antonio Banderas at Centro Español del Perú (Av. Salaverry 1910, Jesús María) will open its doors at 9:30 a.m.

The program will feature video screenings of Fragilidad, by Youth Theater Dance Company (Belarus); How to Make Another Boléro?, by EM+- (Italy); and El Mercader de Venecia, by The Jewish State Theatre in Bucharest (Romania).

The day will conclude at 7:30 p.m. with Lyribélula, a performance by the Spanish artists of MikrÓpera. This production combines opera and clowning in a one-person performance that tells the story of a shy assistant who, when a famous tenor fails to appear, must replace him on stage, facing a crisis that becomes a journey of self-discovery.

Admission is free upon prior registration and subsequent confirmation.

The program will continue on Friday, April 24, at the Teatro Auditorio Miraflores (Av. Larco 1150), with performing arts presentations and screenings, including Hamlet Is Dead by Arte Factum Company (Romania), La Asesina by Faos Theatre Group (Greece), The Suppliants by Contemporary Theater Institute (Iran), and The Old Women Who Harvest Nettle by Experimenta Art Co (Greece), among others.

May Program

With additional screenings of dance, performance, and theater, the program will continue on Friday, May 8, at the Teatro de Miraflores.

Among the featured works are Woman Ex Machina by Experimental Theatre Stage (Greece), Eclipse Lunar by Cultural and Artistic Youth Association KUUM (Serbia), and Gorgon Syndrome by NODOstage Group and Universal Art Design / WOAK Toruń (Poland), among others.

Finally, Peru Biennial announces the arrival of new international organizations with performing arts productions that will continue to enrich its international program. These include 6 Days: The End of a Poet by Mododentro Theatre Company (Greece), Desdemona’s Handkerchief by Shakespeare Imaginarium (Romania), and Self-Correction by 0.5 Artistic Group (Greece). The organizers invite audiences to follow Peru Biennial’s social media channels for information about upcoming dates.

“It will be an unmissable gathering that celebrates art as a bridge between territories and sensibilities, a valuable opportunity for cultural exchange that promotes cultural diversity, artistic dialogue, and the strengthening of the performing arts in Latin America,” said Fidel Cárdenas, president of Peru Biennial, an organization that promotes the artistic, creative, and cultural industries in the country.
