Choreodrama “Jovana Lukina”

Synopsis

The choreodrama “Jovana Lukina” presents patriarchy through an expressive choreographic language. Inspired by the film of the same name by the renowned Montenegrin director Živko Nikolić, the choreodrama explores male-female relationships and the pressures that patriarchy imposes on women in the Balkans.

The performers use movement as the primary means of communication on stage, aiming through this shared language to achieve a common goal: gender equality. The choreodrama examines the perception of women and their roles in society, both past and present. It explores how tradition transforms over time and brings the issues of the traditional patriarchal system to the surface.

The choreodrama raises the level of discussion around gender equality in the Balkans, using tradition as a tool to provoke and question the region.
