Beneath the Shadows of the Mountain

Beneath the Shadow of the Mountain by Yannis Ritsos, staged for the third time worldwide, is a highly acclaimed monodrama starring awarded director and actress Nana Papadaki, with original music by composer Vassilis Tzavaras, based on the mythical Electra parting with the myth facing modern history and human condition.

The play has been presented for two years in Greece and has traveled to Belgium as invited by Hellenic Circle – Cultural Association in Brussels. It has been presented in close and open spaces, like the Old Oil Mill in Elefsina at the Aeschylia Festival and also as part of the Tribute to Yannis Ritsos for 110 years since his birth.

Beneath the Shadow of the Mountain» belongs to the masterpiece «The Fourth Dimension» by Yannis Ritsos and refers to the Atreides cycle and specifically to the mythical Electra. The power of Ritsos’ writing elevates the myth into a space of coupling reality and dream, contemplation, quest and existential anguish, as myth meets contemporary history. The thread of memory unravels, individual and collective passions run through history and reach the present day. Through rare associative imagery, lyricism, anguish, and irony, the protagonist attempts to separate from the   mythical past and heal personal and collective wounds.
