Oblivion
Synopsis.
Based on the poetry collection [lambda theta] by Christina Kyriazidi
Oblivion is a dance-theatre solo performance inspired by Christina Kyriazidi’s poetry collection. It forms the first part of the trilogy Oblivion Cracks on my Body, a creative collaboration between the Greek poet-performer Christina Kyriazidi and the Icelandic composer Smári Gudmundson.
The trilogy explores womanhood in all its complexity — archetypal, ontological, sexual, political, and social. In Oblivion, the focus turns to the pandemic of forgetfulness that marks contemporary life, and how it silences women’s voices. Through fragmented stories of women caught at the moment when memory fades, a haunting lament unfolds — a noisy silence filled with echoes of remembrance and loss.
Voices emerge from this oblivion: women who have suffered femicide, domestic and state violence, exile, and abandonment. Their stories intersect fleetingly before dissolving back into silence. Drawing from C. Kyriazidi’s poetry and prose, and interwoven with references to K. Cavafy’s “Polis” and Jean Cocteau’s “The Human Voice,” the work invites audiences into a deeply emotional exploration of memory, identity, and resilience.
Performed mainly in Greek — with passages in French, Portuguese, Spanish, and Polish — the performance is accompanied by English/Spanish surtitles, allowing an international audience to experience its poetic and sonic landscape.
