The Murderess
Synopsis
In this adaptation of the classical novel by Alexandros Papadiamantis “The Murderess”, 14 young actors are trying to explore the character of Frangogiannou, an elderly woman who begins to murder baby girls trying to save them from the fate that they would have to face if they were to grow up. What Theodore Abazis has achieved with this play, is to create a very unique form of a human orchestra in which the members do not produce music, but words. Each and every one of the actors is given the chance to have their own moment on stage. Every glimpse, every word, every movement has been carefully selected in order to produce a simple but riveting result. There are no leading and secondary roles, just a chorus resembling the chorus of ancient tragedy: narrating, transforming into the characters and ultimately giving the audience the most important thing of all: a deep dive into the magnificent world of Alexandros Papadiamantis that has no resemblance to any other world. The set is plain, the costumes are simple. The director highlights with every choice of his, that the attention should be solemnly in the plot.
