Synopsis
Ya-Ha-Sim explores the different relationships and connections people encounter throughout life. As a choreographer, I am deeply interested in storytelling through partnering and physical touch. The movement emphasizes dynamics and depth, with the story unfolding through dancers’ interactions that blend contemporary and partnering styles.
The original inspiration for Ya-H-Sim comes from the meaning behind my company’s name, Prints. In this work, I engage with the idea of visibility—using paint and vibrant colors as a metaphor for the emotional “prints” we leave on one another. I am fascinated by the intersection of art and dance, and in Ya-H-Sim, colors become personalities rather than mere paint on canvas.
My goal is to bring color as a living element within the dance, something that exists inside the movement rather than being applied externally. The piece highlights the importance of the people closest to us and presents varied stories of relationships through the combination of color, art, and dance.
Ya-Ha-Sim was originally choreographed as a trio, but for this festival, it will be adapted into a duet. While the choreography will remain very close to the original, slight adaptations will accommodate the change in dancers without altering the essence of the work. This adaptation allows for flexibility and new nuances within the established choreography. The piece currently runs approximately nine minutes but can be developed into a longer work if needed.
Dance has the power to express the unspoken, and through Ya-H-Sim, I invite audiences to connect with their own experiences and relationships. I hope each viewer finds personal meaning in the work, reflecting on emotional connections and the lasting impressions we leave on one another.
